Mardi Gras 2017

The Prissy Hens and Strutting Cocks took over the French Quarter on Feb 24, 2017. Feathered and Be-dazzled, they WOWED the crowds as they paraded on Bourbon and Royal Streets to the sounds of BIG FUN Brass Band. The few that received a Prissy hand-decorated egg were enthralled; next year's eggs will sure to be coveted!

Mardi Gras 2018

Mardi Gras 2018 we were blessed with beautiful weather and many new beautiful, boisterous new members! The Krewe paraded on Friday Feb 9th, with a longer parade route, with the theme of "Fairy Tails"; costumes were inspired by birds from fairy tales.

Membership to the group is open to anyone; new HENS and COCKS may join up to a month prior to Mardi Gras. The group participates in various events during the year from parades to corporate events to backyard pool parties. Come JOIN US and have a Struttin' Good Time!

Costumes and Throws!

Full costume for Hens includes a full feathered headdress with a costume that is minimally 50% feathered. Cock costumes include a white shirt, colorful vest, black pants, and a feathered top-hat. Each year a new Parade Theme is chosen; we VOW to WOW parade watchers! Our throws are hand-decorated hen eggs!

Prissy Hens & Strutting Cocks is a walking Krewe founded in April 2016 by Joann & John Malinski. Loving all things flamboyant and fun, they were the dynamism that incubated the "Prissy Hens & Strutting Cocks" idea until it hatched into a thriving flock.  


The elaborate parade costumes are designed by each member based on the current year's avian theme.  In 2017 the theme was "I Dream in Color" and Joann made each elaborate feathered headpiece & wings for the Prissy Hen officers in various vibrant colors of the rainbow, with her costume reflecting all colors! 

 2018 Mardi Gras theme was "Fairy Tails"; members chose a bird from a fairy tale as their costume inspiration.  Bourbon Street was again aflight with colorful feathered costumes representing the birds from "The Black Swan", "Thumbelina", "The Firebird", "The Blue Bird", "Alice in Wonderland", "The Owl".. to name a few.

Membership to the group is open to anyone, and as all female birds are known as "hens" and males as "cocks", the Prissy Hens & Strutting Cocks are aptly named!

The Krewe parades thru the French Quarter the Friday before Mardi Gras, following a festive Brass Band.  Consider yourself blessed if you receive a hand-decorated hen egg directly from a Prissy Hen, or perhaps you will crow when a Strutting Cock drapes you in their signature beads or kneels to give you a garter!
