The Prissy Hens and Strutting Cocks took over the French Quarter on Feb 24, 2017. Feathered and Be-dazzled, they WOWED the crowds as they paraded on Bourbon and Royal Streets to the sounds of BIG FUN Brass Band. The few that received a Prissy hand-decorated egg were enthralled; next year's eggs will sure to be coveted!

Walking date for Mardi Gras 2019 will be March 1.
Discussion was lead about need for a working meeting to help cleaning of the hen house. Hoping for this to be held near the end of April. Date has not yet been set. It was further discussed the need for meetings perhaps once a month by the time September comes till the walk.
Cindy presented information about pirate fest being held in Algiers on April 7. She discussed the possibilities of selling different items on that day from 11 to 6. The need for a working meeting would be helpful to boost the inventory for this fundraising activity. Possible dates for working meeting could be the 19th or the 22nd? Also discussed possibility of basket raffles again for fundraising. Also included in this activity would be an area set for membership drive in the booth. Also display club merchandise with possibilities of some sales.
Various discussions were held about different marching and parade opportunities for the membership to both get our name out in front of the public and possibly recruit being visible at various activities. Particularly Mid Summer Mardi Gras event. We have a need to do fundraising to help take the financial and work wise burden off of the Malinskis.
Discussion was held about the 2018 Walk. It was another successful year, but as always a learning curve. Some new suggestions for next year was possibly not having a walking band but perhaps having our own recorded music. It was also suggested that the walk starts at 1:30 at Conti for a better flow and timing in the quarter. Additionally the thought of a “meet and greet” with possibilities of the evening prior at that time the merchandise could be distributed for the next day as well A nice time for members to get to know each other.
Our website and online membership form for 2019 needed will be updated ASAP.

Discussion on 2018 throws – John placed a new order of coozies (75 cents each) and buttons (50 cents each) that can be purchased to throw. It was discussed that last year some money was lost on sales when a fee was not added. Trying to avoid that error this year.
Next presented by Jacque was a membership drive party on the first or the second Sunday in December was discussed. To be a fundraiser/membership drive at the Blind Tiger, Slidell. It was discussed to sell tickets and to give free beer to those interested in joining. Also discussed raffle tickets for basket of liquor possibly going for five dollars a ticket or three for $10.

Parade walk was discussed. The walk will take place on February 10 at 2 o’clock. John is working on all applications and taking care of them with the City. The plan is to meet behind the Jazz Bar at the
Courtyard Royal Sonesta at noon. We will again this year have “Big Fun” as our parade band along with our police escort to follow a path through the quarter with the route starting at St. Louis and Bourbon to St. Ann and Royal to Bienville then back to Bourbon at St. Louis and end at the Beerfest at 410 Bourbon St. at approximately 3 PM and is planned to last for Approximately five hours.
We will need three banner carriers. Cindy mentioned a possible bicycle cart in the hopes of having John ride rather than walk, in that case depending on the price we may need bicycle peddlers also. The banner has been ordered and it is a fairytale banner for this year it is 2’ x 4’.
Various costs were discussed including balcony and alcohol $2500. The band $750. License to the city $50. And the police escort $350. Food from Rouses $400. We have to find out how we can get the food from Rouses to be Beerfest.
Arthur Hardy Mardi Gras Guide will be on sale for Christmas Eve of which we are to be featured in. A big “thank you” to Jacque for that opportunity to get some good PR for the club.
We called this meeting to a close. We will try to meet again in December but date has not been set yet.
SPECIAL EVENTS:Pirate Day at the Dock (Surfer Rehab at the Dock, Slidell), Saturday, May 13th. To promote PHSC membership, prior to the 7 pm band, we will take over the stage with our head-pieces and tops (not full costumes), and do a quick performance to grab attention! Proposed is a line dance to Rod Stewarts "Hot Legs" or "Do you Think I'm Sexy". SONG SUGGESTIONS? As rehearsal will be just minutes before, the moves will need to be simple. Perhaps we just do a variation of the chicken dance? Posted 5/3/17 by CT
